Tell us briefly about your services or what you sell: | Milan’s Magic is a self-care brand I created at 21 years old, inspired by my work in psychiatry since becoming a registered nurse at 19. I offer handmade candles, relaxation supplies, guided journals, coloring books, and uplifting stickers—all created to encourage healing, mindfulness, and self-love. Milan’s Magic is built around the mission of reminding people to take care of themselves in gentle, intentional ways. |
What inspired you to start your business? | Honestly, life hit me hard. I became a registered nurse at 19 and was working in psych when I went through something really traumatic—I was assaulted at work. After that, it felt like loss after loss, one thing after another. I was completely drained, physically and emotionally. But I’ve always been a creative person, so I leaned into that. I started making things that helped me feel calm, grounded, and like myself again. Around that same time, when I first became a nurse, I also wrote and published my first children’s book, Scaredy Cat, which helps kids understand anxiety—something I’ve personally dealt with from a young age. That experience opened my eyes to the idea of selling my own products and showed me how powerful creativity could be when it came to healing. It planted the seed. After everything I went through, Milan’s Magic became my way of turning pain into purpose. It helped me heal, and now it’s helping others find comfort and peace too. It’s about turning struggle into softness and creating spaces where people feel safe to be real and take care of themselves. |
What problem does your business solve? | I think a lot of people are struggling quietly. We’re overwhelmed, anxious, burnt out, or just not okay—and we don’t always know how to take care of ourselves. Milan’s Magic is my way of offering small moments of peace. Whether it’s lighting a candle after a rough day or writing something honest in a journal, I want people to feel like they’re not alone and that healing doesn’t have to be fancy or perfect. |
What daily habits contribute to your success? | Honestly? Taking breaks. Checking in with myself. Letting myself feel things instead of pushing through. I’m a full-time school nurse too, so life is nonstop, but I try to stay organized, keep a running to-do list, and carve out time to create. Even 20 minutes of working on Milan’s Magic after a long day means a lot. I’ve also learned that rest is productive, and I don’t feel guilty for it anymore. |
How do you stay motivated during tough times? | I think about why I started. Milan’s Magic came from my lowest point, so every time I light one of my candles or see someone connect with my work, it reminds me that something beautiful came out of something so painful. Also, I think about the people who might need what I’m creating—people who are going through it and just need a little hope or comfort. |
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as an entrepreneur? | “Your pain has a purpose.” I used to hide the things I went through, but now I see that being open about my story is what connects me to others. People don’t need perfect—they need real. That advice gave me the courage to just be myself, flaws and all. |
What does success mean to you? | Success to me means being free to be myself in my line of work. I want to express myself fully and show up authentically, without having to water down my values or personality. I also think being rich has nothing to do with money—it’s about being stress-free, having peace of mind, and being surrounded by people who truly love and support me. That’s the version of success I’m chasing every day. |
