Tell us briefly about your services or what you sell: I am a new womenswear designer, aiming to compete in the luxury space. I look to dress the young, modern woman with a busy, glamorous, and demanding schedule. All of my garments are made in Manhattan with a strong focus on ethical sourcing of fine fabrics.
What inspired you to start your business? The confidence that dressing well gave me when I moved to NYC as a model. I knew I loved the industry but found my role as a model to be unfulfilling; I wanted to be more so behind the creative vision.
What problem does your business solve? With a closet of the best designers that I have curated for a decade in New York, my goal is to create luxury garments that compete with brands like The Row and Khaite, but with more transparent production and sourcing methods and a more reasonable price point.
What daily habits contribute to your success? Showing up every day, no matter how you feel, contributes to success. Shooting above your weight contributes to success. Most things I have achieved, I have achieved with fear and uncertainty. The result was still the same nonetheless.
How do you stay motivated during tough times? Honestly, I’m not always motivated, but I’m always anxious. I think people use anxiety incorrectly, when it could be used as a tool. I think being scared of not having new garments, of having this be for nothing, that fear of not making it - that keeps me motivated. It’s not as glamorous of an answer as some would think.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received as an entrepreneur? The best piece of advice I’ve received would be more so to me as an artist rather than an entrepreneur. “If you don’t like it, it is not for you.” I think sometimes we can get so nervous about our art not resonating with someone, but it’s not supposed to resonate with everyone. Art is particular and individual and it sits differently with everyone. Find your target market. Find where you are wanted. Stay there and create there. The rest don’t matter.
What does success mean to you? Success, to me, is a feeling of satisfaction. It’s not a number in a bank account or followers on Instagram. It’s that feeling of accomplishment when you get home from a long day, or that feeling of ease when you put your head on the pillow at night. When people you love appreciate your little piece of work that you put out in this world, that is success to me.
